The news came today that Emirates now has now begun to "sell tickets to Jamaica" to both Norman Manley (MKJP) & Sangster International Airport (MKJS). Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett made the announcement following high-level meetings between Jamaica’s tourism officials and a team from Emirates Airlines led by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai World Trade Centre Authority and Chairman & Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai.
While this is obviously exciting news, especially to avgeeks. It is worth noting that Emirates will NOT be flying direct from Dubai to Jamaica. So no Boeing 777s and no Airbus A380's will be flying to Jamaica (not for now anyway in regards to the 777s).
Emirates Jetblue Codesharing partners
Both airlines currently enjoy a codeshare agreement where Jetblue connects passengers from Emirates to 49 US cities, destinations to Mexico and other Caribbean Islands which now includes Jamaica.
Flights to Montego Bay from Dubai will connect through 4 US cities. New York, Newark, Orlando, and Boston with Jetblue.
Caribbean Airlines getting in on the action!
Caribbean Airlines will be joining Jetblue in offering connecting flights from Dubai to Kingston, and Kingston to Dubai both via New York. These flights will eventually be done with Caribbean's new Boeing Max 8s
Minister Bartlett’s trip to Dubai is part of a mega marketing tour to further boost growth in the island’s tourism industry, which includes stops in New York, Africa, Canada, Europe, and Latin America.
