STEWART THE RED-BILLED STREAMERTAIL

Frontier Airlines introduced a new tail honoring Gordon "Butch" Stewart on their Airbus A321 N633FR. They named this aircraft "Stewart the Red-Billed Streamertail," paying tribute to the late businessman, hotelier, and Sandals Resorts founder. The Red-Billed Streamertail is a type of hummingbird native to Jamaica and holds the distinction of being the national bird of Jamaica.

Describing the Red-Billed Streamertail, Frontier Airlines highlighted its striking appearance with iridescent emerald green coloring and long red bills. Locally known as the 'Doctor Bird' due to its long outer tail feathers and black crest that resembles an old-time doctor, these hummingbirds measure between 10 and 30 cm in length, including their bill and tail.

Like other hummingbird species, the Red-Billed Streamertail sustains itself with a diet requiring a daily sugar intake equivalent to half its body mass, crucial for its energy needs during hovering flights. Their primary food source is the nectar from long tubular-shaped flowers they have exclusive access to, positioning them as key pollinators in their ecosystem.

Additionally, the statement notes that the Red-Billed Streamertail faces threats primarily from human interference, including the destruction of eggs and nests, as they have no natural predators.

Frontier Airlines expressed excitement about the new tail. They indicated their anticipation for the aircraft's presence in Jamaica, celebrating the beauty and significance of the Red-Billed Streamertail while honoring the legacy of Gordon "Butch" Stewart.
